500 mL flour
20 mL baking powder
2 mL salt
125 mL firm margarine
200-225 mL milk
Directions:
1. Preheat over to 350 degrees.
2. Sift dry ingredients into mixing bowl.
3. Cut in firm margarine with a pastry blender, until the mixture has the appearance of fine crumbs. Eventually, you will have to get in there with your clean hands.
4. Add milk, a small amount at a time, to the dry mixture, stirring with a fork or spoon until the dough forms a ball around the spoon.
5. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently 10 times.
6. Pat or roll out dough to 1.5 - 2 cm thick. Cut into circles with cookie cutter. Place on ungreased baking sheet.
7. Bake at 350 for 12 - 15 minutes. Cool on a rack.

There are many variations:
1. Cheese Biscuits: Add 125 mL grated cheese to sifted flour mixture in the basic recipe.
2. Raspberry Biscuits: After cutting into circles, use your thumb to put a slight indentation in the top of each biscuit. Spoon 5 mL raspberry jam on top.
3. Cinnamon Biscuits: After kneading, roll dough into a rectangle .5 cm thick. Spread with 50 mL softened margarine, 125 mL brown sugar, sprinkle 15 mL cinnamon on top. Roll up, cut slices, place in greased muffin tin and bake 12 - 15 minutes.
